I Don’t Want It To Fade Away

Music: The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore
Artist: The Walker Brothers

My husband would travel in his little pale blue mini car from Saxmundham to Clacton in Essex most weekends to see me. We loved pop music and would sit in his mini car on the cliff top at Frinton On Sea listening to Radio Caroline which was moored nearby.

My husband passed away in October 2024 after us having been married for 53 years. We had a special song which was ‘our song’ from when I attended St. Osyth’s Teacher Training College from 1966 to 1969.

The song is ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ by The Walker Brothers.

My husband would travel in his little pale blue mini car from Saxmundham to Clacton in Essex most weekends to see me. We loved pop music and would sit in his mini car on the cliff top at Frinton On Sea listening to Radio Caroline which was moored nearby.

The Walker Brothers song became a song special to us because, ironically, it was often being played when it was time for him to depart and go home. It’s a song about the loneliness that is felt when you’re apart from someone you love dearly.

This song was played at his funeral alongside a slideshow of photographs personal to us. My dear neighbour bought me a print of the lyrics of the song and it is framed and is on the wall opposite our wedding photograph.

I find the song heartbreaking to listen to but I don’t want it to fade away and be forgotten about.
