“We have/had a tabby cat, ate café snacks and romanced by candlelight”
My husband - best friend of 49 years, partner for 48 - died three and a half years ago.
My playlist contains tracks that are the music of our life and many grab me by the throat. Madeleine Peyrroux's The Kind You Can't Afford is us to an absolute T - we have/had a tabby cat, ate café snacks and romanced by candlelight.
But Adele's cover of Robert Smith's Lovesong is the one. Every single time it comes on I'm sobbing, three notes in. Every. Single. Time.
When he died I put together an album of photos for his son, me and our best friends. I realised that with every single picture he’d either be looking at me taking it or in the picture with him, with the same look. I have two pictures taken over 40 years apart. Same look. In one picture, we’re with two other couples and everyone is looking at the photographer, except Vic.
He’s looking at his lady love. With complete and utter love.
