Not TOO YOUNG

“I remember when Jim was dying in the 90’s and Gram asked if she should go to London. And I said absolutely. She did and spent time with him and then he passed the day after she left to return back to NY. ”
His name was Jim Munroe. My Gram’s love of her life.
They both grew up in British Guyana and were in love with each other at 17 years old.
My Grandma told me that their song was ‘Too Young’ because no one could believe that they were in love at such a young age. He had even given her a sapphire promise ring (which I still have).
I can’t remember the reason why, but Jim emigrated to the UK in the 40’s and my Gram stayed back in Guyana. She eventually married my Grandfather Edward and emigrated to New York. They had children and Jim married and also had children.
The years went by and they remained friends. Then I think there was a bit of a scandalous moment in the 80’s when my Gram left my Grandpa and went to London to be with Jim for a couple of weeks. A bit of excitement. But my Grandmother never moved to London and Jim never to NY.
I remember when Jim was dying in the 90’s and Gram asked if she should go to London. And I said absolutely. She did and spent time with him and then he passed the day after she left to return back to NY.
I was always a bit sad for my Gram that she never got to truly be with the love of her life. As a figure skater in my teens, in my first competition, I skated to ‘Too Young’ in homage to their love. So when I hear it, it reminds me of their love that never went away.
